QA Automation Engineer

About the role

We are looking for a hands-on QA Automation Engineer to take ownership of quality across our web and backend systems.

This is an automation-first role within a distributed engineering team. You will be expected to work independently, proactively identify gaps in test coverage, improve automation reliability, and contribute meaningfully to release confidence without requiring close supervision.

You will collaborate closely with engineers and product teams to ensure high-quality releases and continuously improve how we approach testing.

You will ideally be based in Portugal for a remote arrangement. We also accept candidates based in Ireland and UK.

Core responsibilities

  • Build and maintain automated tests for UI and API workflows
  • Improve and extend our existing automation frameworks (Cypress / Playwright / WebDriver IO).
  • Test AML/KYC/KYB and document verification journeys.
  • Perform exploratory and regression testing when required.
  • Raise, track, and verify defects to resolution.
  • Contribute to CI/CD pipeline improvements and automation integration.
  • Proactively identify gaps in coverage and drive quality improvements.
  • Support quality processes aligned with ISO 27001 and ISO 9001 standards.

Key requirements

  • 5+ years of hands-on automation testing experience.
  • Strong experience with Cypress or Playwright.
  • Strong understanding of testing methodologies and automation best practices.
  • Designing and maintaining scalable automation frameworks.
  • Experience testing REST APIs (Postman or similar).
  • Good understanding of SQL and database validation.
  • Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines and source control (Git).
  • Experience working in an Agile environment.
  • Experience testing both native mobile applications and web applications across browsers.

Nice to haves

  • Experience with AWS services (Lambda, SQS, DynamoDB, etc.).
  • Experience in FinTech or regulated environments.
  • Exposure to AML, KYC, KYB, or document verification systems.
  • Experience with performance testing tools (JMeter, Gatling).
  • Exposure to event-driven architectures.
  • Experience with BDD (Cucumber / Playwright BDD).
  • Experience collaborating with engineers to improve unit and integration test coverage
