Core responsibilities

  • Takes ownership and is comfortable working independently. 
  • Proactively identifies opportunities to improve infrastructure, automation, deployment processes, AI-assisted engineering and operational practices. 
  • Works collaboratively with Developers, QA, Product, and Support Teams to solve operational challenges. 
  • Shares knowledge through documentation, runbooks, and mentoring where appropriate. 
  • Takes a pragmatic approach to solving problems, balancing technical quality with business needs. 
  • Is curious, continuously learns, and isn’t afraid to challenge existing processes when  there is a better way. 

Key requirements

  • Experience operating AWS production environments across multiple accounts (Dev, QA, Staging, Production). 
  • Hands-on Terraform experience building and managing AWS infrastructure in mixed IaC/manual environments. 
  • Experience working in an ISO-27001 environment or similar secure environment is required 
  • Good understanding of AWS IAM, Identity Center (SSO), least privilege, IAM roles, and OIDC-based CI/CD authentication. 
  • Experience designing and operating CI/CD pipelines (preferably Jenkins and Bitbucket Pipelines). 
  • Experience running containerised workloads on Amazon ECS/Fargate. 
  • Good understanding of AWS networking, including VPCs, routing, load balancers, Route 53, and private networking. 
  • Experience building and supporting event-driven architectures using SQS, EventBridge, and Lambda. 
  • Experience troubleshooting production systems using CloudWatch, Datadog, logs, metrics, and distributed tracing. 
  • Experience operating AWS platform services including RDS, DynamoDB, S3, OpenSearch, ElastiCache/Memcached, and ECR. 
  • Experience implementing secure platform practices, including WAF, vulnerability scanning, and secure deployment processes. 
  • Comfortable supporting both modern AWS-native services and legacy EC2-based platforms. 
  • Willingness to automate operations outside of the core platform 
  • Good documentation and operational discipline. 

Qualifications

  • Minimum 3 years of hands-on DevOps experience, with a proven track record. 
  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in the relevant field 

Nice to haves

  • Familiarity with Java/Spring Boot, Node.js/TypeScript, Python, and modern frontend deployment patterns. 
  • Ability to troubleshoot distributed systems spanning legacy applications, microservices, queues, and external integrations. 
  • Experience working in regulated SaaS environments with change control, auditability, security, and operational governance. 
  • Experience optimising AWS infrastructure for cost, reliability, and operational excellence. 
  • Experience with Serverless Framework and CloudFormation for serverless applications.
